Top 36 Update

Well, I just got the news. Joanna Pacitti has been cut from the Top 36 and Felicia Barton is taking her place. All I can say is that THIS IS GREAT NEWS! No more waiting for the mega-plant to die like last season! Her making the Top 36 was waaaaaaay too shady.

On another note, I have to think that "Idol" planned this last-minute switch for publicity purposes. I mean, do you honestly think they didn't know there was any controversy about her until just now? Then they announce the switch immediately after the episode naming the Top 36? If this was all a setup for publicity, I almost feel bad for Joanna. I mean, they used her. Even planty contestants are people too. I'm happy she's gone, but they shouldn't have strung her along like they did. Now she has two claims to fame: missing out on both "American Idol" as well as "Annie."

As I mentioned in last night's post, Felicia Barton seemed to have a decent internet following from what I saw, but she got very little screen time. I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I know someone who knows Felicia. I've never met her or anything, but I'll probably be voting for her just because of that vague connection. Just for the heck of it, I'll replace Joanna with Felicia in my prediction for the Top 12. Go Felicia!

Alright for vague connections! I'd vote for her too!

Did I tell you that I had an email conversation with Luke Menard from Season 6? Yes, it was actually him and, yes, it was an actual conversation. It was very short but it was still a conversation!

He's my friend on Facebook now!

That's cool about Luke, Kristi!

I've left a few comments on Chris Sligh's blog that he responded to, but that's about the extent of my contact with any "Idol" contestants.

How can I get in touch with Michael Johns???? :)

I think Felicia will probably make it to the Top 12...they'll probably arrange the groups so if she doesn't get through on votes, she can be picked as a wild card. Since they had to replace someone with her, they'll want her to stay around to make it look like it was a good decision, so they can all pat themselves on the back.

what's the problem with Joanna and Carly? They're good singers who didn't have the right oportunity to shine. That sometimes happen to people... DOn't they deserve a chance to try again?
At least they are so much better than lots of people who get to the top 5...

Becky - I could see that happening. If I'm not mistaken, they did that with George Huff in Season 3.

Maybe Michael Johns responds to people on Myspace? I don't know.

Vitor - Joanna had connections to several people who worked on "Idol," so that's pretty sketchy right there. Carly had connections to Randy Jackson, so that was sketchy too. Having a past record deal is one thing, but connections to people who work on "Idol" are a violation of our faith that each hopeful comes in with an equal opportunity.

Ian, but way before they disqualify Joanna for these connections, people already hated her. I believe that's so low. If they used all this energy for hating others on understanding and tolerating the differences we have in this world and helping people who need, we would live in a much better place.

And after all, even they didn't have any connections with the production, they would be hated anyway... You know what really should be hated? Hunger, poverty, global warming, racism, homophobia and so on.

That's why my favorite this year is Tatiana. In this world that we live, where standards of appearance, behavior and everyhting else is imposed to us, she's not afraid to be who she really is. She fights the hypocrisy we are all drowned in. She's no Norman Gentle, she's no character. She is authentic. Annoying sometimes, but she can be really funny if we let her and put all our prejudice aside. And she is talented. She can sing and can produce good records. We don't have to live with her to listen to her music. And enjoy it...

And she is really important, more for what she represents than for being an artist. And what's people reaction? They hate her. People is so affraid of differences... Why is that?

Let's think about it... It won't hurt, I promise.

Vitor - As I said in this very post you're commenting on, I thought it was pretty low-class of "Idol" to disqualify Joanna after they'd already put her in the Top 36. They had to have known about the controversy already, so they shouldn't have gotten her hopes up like they did. I don't "hate" Joanna, I only think she shouldn't be on "Idol."

There's a big difference between hating a person and not wanting to see a person on a TV show. Most "Idol" fans would probably say they "hate" certain contestants, but most of them have no ill will toward those contestants as human beings.

You don't have to tell me not to hate Tatiana. I've actually defended her on this blog. The way they've edited it, she looks desperate and self-centered, but there's a lot that conveniently gets ignored. For instance, there was drama within her group during Hollywood week, but they were all in high spirits and getting along fine the morning they had to perform. If Tatiana was really such a nightmare I imagine the drama would've continued. She seems like a very focused person in her interviews on the AI website, and since this is her dream I can imagine she'd have some moments where the stress overwhelmed her and she came off looking desperate. I absolutely think she deserves the chance she's getting.

Ian, I didn't talk about you specifically. I talked about the situation people put these girls. I wasn't criticizing you at all in any moment. Just read again and you'll find out.

Don't take that tone with me, young lady.
